Hello everyone!
This month I have spent a lot of time working on ‘Teaching
Ideas’ in the Interpretation department. I’ve been working through all of the
DMA’s education files from the 1970s until the early 2000’s. In this search, I
am hoping to find material that has not been put online at some point in time
to help expedite the process of inputting potential teaching ideas for both
educators and viewers.
I’ve also been working heavily on research for object
descriptions for the DMA’s online collection. This is pretty fun for me,
considering my focus and background is art history. Oftentimes, because I get
to choose the material I am working on, I can research material that I’ve been
interested in previously or is beneficial to my current scholarship. In fact, I’ve
decided on a new course of research for my thesis based on some of the stuff I’ve
been able to study so far!
Overall, I’m really enjoying my time at the DMA and am
excited to continue working here over the summer! I hope everyone else is having a great summer, too!

Oooh! Tell us more about what new research ideas you have uncovered through your work at the DMA! I am eager to hear! What are some of the objects that have been most interesting to you as you research them for the online collection?

The research I've been working on has mainly been with 18th century porcelain and silver - which as been amazing to have access to and get to work on! I personally love tureens and the DMA actually has a pretty great collection I've been able to work on! The main piece I studied was the 18th century British dressing set they have on display which was a huge undertaking and was incredibly interesting to look at! Amazingly, they still didn't let me touch it! ;)

DeleteWow, that sound like a very intriguing job. I'd be curious to see what you can put together and perhaps talk about when we meet in the fall.
ReplyDeleteEverything has been great at the Kimbell, keeping busy writing lesson plans and doing research for projects, it's been very interesting and fun! It's great that you are finding a new focus with your current activities, I bet it's great to get that eureka moment when you decide to change something and it feels good and right! Congratulations and keep it up!
