Other than that, I am still interning here at GDAC. The end of 2019 was pretty busy for us, and we ended the year on good note:
Arts After School ended in November with a gallery show of the kids' artwork in Festival Hall; the parents and family who came all loved it and gave Christine several compliments on the program. Lots of personalized crafts were made and the kids were able to explain their ideas and work to everyone who visited their individual tables. We have a lot of repeat students this session!
Programs: Working with Christine has been a great experience - I've learned so much in organizing and coordinating programs, seeing how much work and networking goes into the process of establishing something that sticks in the community. It has also been interesting seeing how a nonprofit functions and how to create interesting and attention grabbing functions on a specific budget. It's very rewarding when visitors look forward to our Family Program or our Crafted sessions. Our November and December Family Programs, in particular, did phenomenally well and we saw over 200 people between the two! Seeing the innerworkings of collaborations between local sponsors like Gnome Cones and SweetWaters Coffee and Tea and GDAC even more so establishes the interconnection of the community - a sort of 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch your's', but make it social. Likewise Crafted has done well, and our Drawing Class is getting hits!
Social Media: Over the course of my time here, I've been entrusted in helping maintain our social media presence even moreso. I have created infographics and posters for our various events, and work with our volunteer graphic designer to strategize and plan out the success of our platforms. It's been a little tough balancing the need for both departments, but also rewarding in getting people in the door. Currently I am learning how to design graphics to go along with photography posts; something that I am very excited about.
Overall we have been doing some awesome stuff here at GDAC, and in the next few posts, I'll be sharing about the opening of the 33rd Materials Hard + Soft exhibition, as well as the other awesome shows going on, and my progress and help in promoting those. Also, I'll be talking about my Art After School kids a little bit more, and the awesome strides they have been making in class this session!
